Beyond Hard Hats: Building a Safe and Supportive Jobsite Culture

Safety-critical industries are among the most demanding: deadlines, safety risks, and physical strain intersect with silent struggles such as stress, burnout, substance use and mental health conditions. In 2025, 76% of U.S. workers reported at least one symptom of a mental health condition, and the suicide rate among male workers is significantly higher than the national average. Chronic pain, opioid prescriptions and long hours can compound these challenges. A recent National Safety Council study found that workers who felt psychologically unsafe were 80% more likely to report a workplace injury, demonstrating the critical link between mental well-being and traditional safety outcomes. This session will equip supervisors, foremen and site leaders with practical, field-tested strategies to lead with empathy, reduce stigma, and build a jobsite culture where safety and mental well-being go hand in hand.
