Advancing SIF Prevention: Aligning Standards, Operations, Contractor Management, Construction, and Risk Systems to Prevent Serious Harm
Despite significant reductions in OSHA recordable rates, serious incidents and fatalities (SIFs) have remained persistent across industries. This is particularly true in construction and contractor-driven work. This gap underscores a critical need to move beyond traditional safety metrics and toward systems that effectively identify and control high-risk work.
In this Professional Development Seminar, participants will leverage tools from the NSC SIF Prevention Model and new ASTM SIF Prevention Standards to explore how to apply new approaches across different industries, contractor management and construction environments. The session will focus on identifying high hazard activities, conditions, and events; SIF Risk Assessment Tools, strengthening the verification of critical safeguards; new SIF Prevention Metrics; and aligning expectations across owners, contractors, and subcontractors.
Through interactive exercises, real-world scenarios, and practical AI enabled SIF risk assessment tools, attendees will learn how to integrate SIF-focused risk assessment into their existing processes and systems. The seminar will also introduce how emerging ASTM SIF Prevention standards support consistency and scalability across complex project environments.
Participants will leave with actionable strategies to shift from injury-rate-driven systems to risk-based approaches that more effectively prevent life-altering events.
