Real-World Testing of MSD Prevention Technologies: A Review of the MSD Solutions Lab Pilot Grant Projects

As an outcome of the MSD Pilot Solutions grants, grantees have examined various technologies to eliminate or reduce risk from hazardous jobs. These grants invited the solution provider winners of the 2024 Safety Innovative Challenge to collaborate with an industry partner, a current MSD Pledge member, to reduce the risk of workplace MSDs. This session will highlight the learnings from the grant projects and prompt discussions for scaling these innovative solutions. Some highlights from these projects include: • Exploration into how technology can be used to train employees, create risk profiles and provide early hazard identification. • Utilization of computer vision to reduce upper extremity MSD risks in cable management and electrical connectivity manufacturing operations. • Assessing the benefits of a “surgeon exoskeleton” in reducing upper limb strain. • Leveraging of AI wearable technology to identify lifting stress incidents at manufacturing facilities and delivery sites.
