Strengthening Safety Programs Through Ergonomics Expertise

Traditional safety programs typically focus on assessing general operational risk and meeting compliance requirements. While essential, this approach often falls short in managing ergonomics-related risk. Addressing these risks requires an ergonomist with systems-level expertise. A competent ergonomist strengthens safety by shifting organizations from reactive to proactive risk management and long-term strategy. Through upstream design engagement, ergonomists collaborate with engineers to define requirements, evaluate early concepts, and assess complex scenarios before implementation. This session will introduce the BCPE model for developing competent ergonomics expertise. With a foundation in physical, cognitive, and organizational ergonomics, ergonomists assess work holistically, surfacing latent risks early and delivering value beyond compliance through improved safety, quality, productivity and system performance.
